Desigualdad de ingresos y recursos turísticos en Uruguay: un enfoque espacial

Resumen

Si bien es conocido que la dotación de recursos naturales, culturales y recreativos contribuye directamente el desarrollo del turismo, existe un desconocimiento sobre cómo la asignación y distribución de recursos en un país puede afectar las disparidades económicas regionales. El objetivo de este trabajo es explorar las desigualdades regionales en los salarios y su relación con el desarrollo del turismo en Uruguay. Se construyen cuatro índices de amenidades turísticas (amenidades naturales terrestres, amenidades naturales basadas en el agua, amenidades históricoculturales y amenidades recreativas) y se computó su interacción con el empleo turístico, como un indicador del desarrollo turístico para el período 2006 2019. Además, se estima un modelo de error espacial para analizar la relación entre la desigualdad económica y el desarrollo en turismo. La evidencia sugiere que existen algunas disparidades regionales en la distribución del ingreso en el sector turismo. Adicionalmente, algunas especificaciones del modelo econométrico muestran una relación positiva entre el empleo en actividades relacionadas con el turismo y la desigualdad de ingresos laborales y que los departamentos con amenidades histórico-culturales tienden a tener una distribución de ingresos laborales más igualitaria.
