Abstract

In this essay, I analyze the representation of the diasporic experience in the articles written by Legna Rodríguez Iglesias for El Estornudo, one of the most celebrated Cuban independent outlets operating today. In particular, my article investigates how this renowned writer’s literary chronicles help shape and appeal to a transnational community of readers that defines the contemporary Cuban cultural identity. More specifically, I focus on discursive practices within the digital space of the Cuban diaspora that serve as a context for works such as those by Rodríguez Iglesias. These transnational narratives interact with a literary tradition established in recent decades and that is part of the new global geography that would define cubanness nowadays. Finally, I look at how Rodríguez Iglesias’ articles connect with the ‘written marks’ commonly associated with the so-called Generación Cero.
