Digital transformation of the Argentine industry: An exploratory study of the food machinery sector

Abstract

This article analysed the process of digital transformation and adoption of 4.0 technologies in the food machinery sector in Argentina. Through a case study approach, the dynamics of incorporating digital technology in this sector were studied. The results evidence heterogeneity in digital transformation among the companies analysed and suggest that demand is a crucial factor in encouraging this process. These findings contribute to the literature that has begun to document the dynamics of digital capability building in the manufacturing sector in the region and provide inputs for designing and formulating policies aimed at promoting Industry 4.0 in emerging countries.
